Magnesium Isopropoxide

As a catalyst: Magnesium isopropoxide is commonly used as a Lewis acid catalyst in organic synthesis to promote the formation of esters, ethers, and ether acyls, as well as other substitution reactions. Preparation of other compounds: Magnesium isopropoxide can be used to synthesize organomagnesium reagents, such as Grignard reagents, for the reaction to prepare complex organic compounds such as alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones.

Precautions must be taken to avoid contact with skin or eyes. If magnesium isopropoxide catches fire, do not use water to extinguish it; use dry powder extinguisher or bury it with sand.
