What Is An Intermediate?

Intermediates, also known as organic intermediates, originally referred to intermediate products used in the synthesis of chemical products such as fragrances, dyes, resins, pharmaceuticals, plasticizers, and rubber accelerators from coal tar or petroleum products. Now, they broadly refer to various intermediate products obtained during organic synthesis. Pharmaceutical intermediates refer to some chemical raw materials or products used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals.

Antifungal agents prevent clothes from becoming moldy and rotting. The main raw material for producing them is an intermediate-o-chlorobenzoic acid. o-chlorobenzoic acid is an important intermediate with a wide range of applications in the pesticide, pharmaceutical, and dye industries. In pesticides, it is mainly used to synthesize insecticides (such as thiamethoxam-1) and antifungal agents. In pharmaceuticals, it is mainly used to synthesize antipsychotics such as perphenazine, adrenergic agonists such as zenbufenoxam and thrombocytidine, antifungal drugs such as clotrimazole, chlorpromazine, ketamine, and diclofenac sodium. It is a standard reagent for the alkaline titration and iodometric titration methods and is used as a preservative in adhesives and paints. Furthermore, it plays a significant role in dyes. We rely on photography in our daily lives; everyone has their own photographs. The material for photographs is film, which can be produced from o-chlorobenzoic acid. In chemistry, isomers often share similar chemical properties; therefore, p-chlorobenzoic acid also possesses similar functions to o-chlorobenzoic acid and is an intermediate in pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and dyes. Because of these substances, life is enriched with color and beauty, and we have memories that can be preserved forever. They contribute to the progress of life and improve its quality.
