Sodium methoxide is also a commonly used catalyst. It can also be used in the chemical fiber industry.

Solid sodium methoxide is packaged in cardboard drums or iron drums.

This product should be stored in its original packaging or a suitable airtight container in a clean, dry place. The ideal storage environment is a dark place with low humidity. Contact with water or air will cause sodium methoxide to decompose rapidly or spontaneously combust; therefore, it should be stored in a sealed container. Precautions must be taken to avoid contact with skin or eyes.
