Triethyl Aluminium

a) Aluminum triethanide can be used as a catalyst, initiator, rocket fuel, and in gas-coated aluminum.

b) It can be used to prepare catalysts for tertiary alcohols, secondary alcohols, and polyolefins. It can also be used as a raw material for other organic compounds and for aluminum plating.

c) Triethyl aluminum and titanium tetrachloride form a Ziegler catalyst used for low-pressure polymerization of ethylene, propylene polymerization, and isoprene polymerization. With titanium trichloride, it forms a Natal catalyst used for the directional polymerization of propylene. This product is also used as a catalyst in synthetic rubber and organic synthesis, and is one of the components of Ziegler-Natal catalysts.

d) It is used as a raw material in MOCVD processes and for depositing aluminum films in diode, transistor, and integrated circuit production. It is used as a dopant in semiconductor manufacturing. It is also an excellent catalyst for olefin polymerization.

Triethyl aluminium is packaged in Class I steel containers.

Triethylaluminum is stable at room temperature, but begins to decompose significantly above 100°C; it is sensitive to oxygen and spontaneously combusts in air, sometimes even exploding; it decomposes explosively and burns upon contact with water. It must be stored in a sealed, dry environment away from direct sunlight.

Appropriate personal protective equipment, such as chemical protective gloves, goggles, and protective clothing, should be worn when handling it.

Keep away from sources of ignition and oxidizers during storage and handling.

Triethylaluminum should be used in a well-ventilated area; avoid inhalation of the fumes or skin contact.
