Titanium Trichloride

Titanium Trichloride

Overview: Titanium trichloride dark purple crystals, hygroscopic. Decomposes above its melting point. Unstable, spontaneously combustible. Decomposition temperature: 440℃. Soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in chloroform, insoluble in ether and benzene. Has strong reducing properties. Can undergo oxidation upon exposure to air. Non-flammable, but can ignite in the presence of an oxidizing agent. Decomposes under high heat to produce toxic and corrosive gases. In the presence of humid air, releases heat and a nearly white, smoky, irritating and corrosive hydrogen chloride gas.
Color and Appearance: Dark purple crystals, hygroscopic.

Product Introduction

Applications

Titanous chloride is used as a titrant in the analysis of azo dyes and for colorimetric determination of copper, iron, vanadium, etc.

In synthetic chemistry, TITANIUM(III) CHLORIDE is a reducing agent for tetravalent chromium and an important component in the preparation of Ziegler-Natta catalyst [Al(C₂H₅)₃TiCl₃], which can be used in olefin polymerization.

It can also be used in the preparation of metallic titanium and electron microscope samples.

Titanium(+2) cation trichloride can also be used as a coloring agent for dyes and pigments.

Packaging, Storage, Handling, and Transportation

Tac121 is packaged in cardboard drums.

Packaging Specifications: 25 kg/cardboard drum

Storage Conditions: Storage Precautions: Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The packaging must be sealed to prevent contact with air. Store separately from oxidizers; do not mix with other substances. Do not store in large quantities or for extended periods. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation equipment. Do not use machinery or tools that may generate sparks. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leaks.

Stability:

1. Aqueous solutions are incompatible with alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, and many organic and inorganic active chemicals, decomposing in air and water. It has a strong reducing effect. It is highly irritating to mucous membranes, the upper respiratory tract, eyes, and skin. Workers should take protective measures. If contact with skin or eyes occurs, immediately flush with plenty of running water.

2. Titanium trichloride powder is flammable in air, sensitive to moisture, reacts violently with water, and can cause skin burns. Reactions involving titanium trichloride typically involve highly reactive low-valent titanium intermediates, therefore must be carried out under an inert gas atmosphere.

3. Stability: Stable

4. Incompatible Materials: Strong oxidizing agents, water

5. Conditions to Avoid: Humid air

6. Polymerization Hazard: Does not polymerize
