Methyl Formate

1. Methyl methanoate is used as a raw material in organic synthesis to produce formic acid, formamide, dimethylformamide, ethylene glycol, trichloromethyl chloroformate, oxalate, acetic anhydride, acetic acid, etc.

2. Used in the production of insecticides, military toxic gases, and solvents; used as a solvent for nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate, and as a fumigant and fungicide.

3. Used as a formylating agent in organic synthesis. It can also be used in fragrances, dried fruits, and grain processing.

4. Used as a fungicide, fumigant, and for tobacco treatment. It is also a raw material in organic synthesis; for example, MeF hydrolysis can produce formic acid; amination can produce formamide and dimethylformamide; coupling with carbon-based compounds can produce ethylene glycol; it can synthesize trichloromethyl chloroformate (diphosgene) and oxalate; dehydration can produce acetic anhydride; and isomerization can produce acetic acid, etc.

5.Used in organic synthesis as a solvent for cellulose acetate, an insecticide, a fungicide, and an analytical reagent.

This product can irritate the eyes and nose; poisoning may cause central nervous system depression, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, and visual disturbances; severe cases can lead to death.

If this chemical gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with water; if it comes into contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and water; if inhaled in large quantities, immediately move to fresh air, and if necessary, perform artificial respiration and seek medical treatment; if swallowed, drink plenty of water to induce vomiting, and in severe cases, seek hospital treatment.

The production site must be well-ventilated, and production equipment must be sealed. Operators should wear protective clothing to prevent repeated or prolonged skin contact. Wear protective eyewear to prevent eye contact. When operating under high concentrations of vapor, wear a gas mask. If work clothes become wet or contaminated, remove them immediately to avoid the risk of combustion.

HCOOCH3 is volatile and should be stored in tightly sealed metal drums or cans to prevent mechanical damage. Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, with a maximum storage temperature not exceeding 28°C. Keep away from heat sources and ignition. Containers must be sealed. Ideally, store outdoors in an open-air or attached warehouse, or in a dedicated flammable liquid storage facility. Keep away from oxidizers.

Methyl formate is a Class 1 flammable liquid. Hazard code: 61101. Toxic. Containers must be marked "Flammable, Toxic" during transport, and passengers are prohibited. Handle with care to prevent damage to the packaging.
