Overview: Glufosinate-P（L-glufosinate）, chemically named 4-{hydroxy(methyl)phosphonoyl}-DL-hoalanine, also known as glufosinate salt, is a glutamine synthesis inhibitor and a non-selective contact herbicide. Studies have shown that its herbicidal activity is limited to the L-isomer. Although the commercial product is a mixture of DL components, the D-isomer does not possess biological herbicidal activity. Therefore, the biological activity of [14C] (2S)-2-amino-4-(hydroxy(methyl)phosphoryl)butanoic acid is twice that of the racemic DL mixture at the same concentration.

Applications

L-Phosphinothricin is a highly effective, broad-spectrum, low-toxicity, non-selective herbicide, mainly used for weed control in non-cultivated land and citrus orchards, banana plantations, vineyards, cowpea fields, tea gardens, cauliflower fields, and other non-cultivated land. It can also be used for weed control in potato fields, etc. It works by inhibiting the activity of plant glutamine synthetase, causing the accumulation of the cytotoxic ammonium ions in the plant, while effectively inhibiting weed photosynthesis, leading to the death of weed stems and leaves, thereby increasing crop yield.
