Magnesium Tert Butoxide

Magnesium t butoxide is a water-sensitive solid, primarily used as a selective base in organic synthesis, a neutralizing agent in anhydrous systems, a raw material for preparing high-purity magnesium oxide, a chemical intermediate, and a catalyst support for polyolefins. Because divalent magnesium ions can form stable chelates with carbonyl groups, magnesium alkoxide compounds such as magnesium methoxide can act as selective carbonyl condensers. Simultaneously, magnesium tertiary butoxide's most significant use is as a key intermediate in the production of Tenofovir.

Solid magnesium tert-butoxide is packaged in cardboard drums or steel drums.

This product should be stored in its original packaging or a suitable airtight container in a dry place. The ideal storage environment is away from direct sunlight and in low humidity. Magnesium tert-butoxide is flammable and corrosive, and reacts violently with water; therefore, it should be stored in a sealed container. Precautions must be taken to avoid contact with skin or eyes. If contact with eyes occurs, immediately flush with plenty of water and seek medical attention. If it comes into contact with sodium ethoxide, do not use water to extinguish the fire; cover it with sand.
