Applications
Potassium tertiary butoxide is an excellent catalyst. Furthermore, as a strong base, it is widely used in organic synthesis in chemical, pharmaceutical, and pesticide industries, for example, in transesterification, condensation, rearrangement, polymerization, ring-opening, and the production of heavy metal orthoesters. It can catalyze Michael addition reactions, Pinacol rearrangements, and Ramberg-Backlund rearrangements; as a condensing agent, it can catalyze Darzens condensation and Stobbe condensation reactions; it is also the most effective base for the traditional alkoxide-haloform reactions that produce dihalocarbenes.

Packaging, Storage, Handling, and Transportation
Potassium tert butanolate is packaged in cardboard drums and steel drums.
Packaging Specifications:
- 25 kg/cardboard drum, 420 drums/20ft container
- 100 kg/steel drum, 80 drums/20ft container
Potassium tert-butoxide is an organic alkaline corrosive substance, highly hygroscopic, and should be stored in a sealed container. During storage and transportation, take precautions against fire and sunlight, and store in a cool, ventilated, and dry place. The ideal storage environment is away from direct sunlight and has low humidity. Contact with water or air will cause potassium tert-butoxide powder to decompose rapidly or spontaneously combust; therefore, it should be stored in a sealed container. Precautions must be taken to avoid contact with skin or eyes. In case of potassium tert-butoxide combustion, do not use water to extinguish the fire; bury it with sand.
